What is Graduated Compression Therapy?
Graduated compression therapy is the "Gold Standard" in the conservative treatment of venous disease. In order to be effective, leg wear used to provide graduated compression therapy must be knitted so that they are graduated; meaning they must exert their highest pressure, measured in mmHg, at the ankle and that pressure must decrease proximally (up the leg).

Problem
Veins in the legs literally move blood back to the heart through a series of valves that open and close, with muscle contraction preventing backward flow of blood. A multitude of problems can be due to: age, disease, hereditary, overweight, as well as prolonged sitting or standing can cause these valves to malfunction, allowing blood to pool in the lower legs. The result is pain, swelling, and stagnation of the blood.

How it works
Compression Garments are scientifically designed to apply decreasing pressure from the ankle up the leg, this controlled pressure compresses surface veins, keeping them small and forcing blood to deeper veins in the legs. This process accelerates the velocity of blood flow to the heart and ends pooling of the blood, thus assuring healthier feet and legs.

It is important to be measured and fitted by a trained practitioner. Often with a referral and diagnosis from your Doctor or Specialist ,we assess and recommend the style of garment best suited to your condition and body shape. Measurements are taken at key points that determine the size and specific compression required.

Compression Classes

Compression is graded as Class 1, 2 or 3, the highest being Class 3.
Garments are fitted to provide specific amounts of Compression to suit the condition being managed
