Ben McMurtrie was awarded a 2002 Winston Churchill Fellowship (Sponsored by the Jack Brockhoff Foundation) to travel to America and Canada to "Investigating the current trends and advancements in orthotic management of paediatric cerebral palsy"
This project involves investigating both clinical and technical trends and advancement in orthotic treatment of the cerebral palsy child. I will be visiting and observing leading facilities and
practitioners in the field of providing orthoses to support, biomechanically influence or protect the limbs of children with cerebral palsy or other related conditions.
The Jack Brockhoff Foundation summary of Purpose:
To provide financial assistance to agencies to enhance the quality of support services to the disabled, the aged, severely disadvantaged families, people with continuing health problems and the homeless. Assistance is also available to medical research institutes and public hospitals.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Jack Brockhoff Foundation for sponsoring my fellowship.
During my trip I will be updating my progress with pictures added to this page when I can.
What is the Churchill Trust?
The Churchill Trust is an Australian Trust established in 1965, the year in which Sir Winston Churchill died. The principal object of the Trust is to perpetuate and honour the memory of Sir Winston Churchill by the award of Memorial Fellowships known as Churchill Fellowships.
What is a Churchill Fellowship?
The aim of the Churchill Trust is to give opportunity, by the provision of financial support, to enable Australians from all walks of life who, having exhausted opportunities within Australia, desire to further their search for excellence overseas. There are no prescribed qualifications, academic or otherwise, for the award of most Churchill Fellowships. Merit is the primary test, whether based on past achievements or demonstrated ability for future achievement in any walk of life. Benefit to Australia is a significant factor.
