Geelong Orthotics have expanded their services to include a medical grade and comfort footwear clinic. We have joined Comfort and Fit who have 17 years experience in specialised footwear fitting and currently have 20 stores across Australia .
When you come to visit us we measure and assess the general appearance, shape and condition of your feet. We observe how you walk and assess requirements needed to fit in orthoses. We then fit you in the most suitable shoe to accommodate your special needs.

Medical Conditions

Footwear range
Comfort Footwear
We have a wide range of dress shoes and walking shoes specifically designed to accommodate foot orthoses and other forms of orthopaedic appliances such as AFOs (ankle foot orthosis). These types of shoes have allowance for wider feet and room for toes but are not as wide or deep as other designs.
Design emphases on these shoes are comfort and appearance.
Medical Footwear
These shoes are designed to suit more difficult to fit foot shapes We accommodate feet with widths from 4A narrow up to 5E wide. Extra depth is given in the forefoot and toe area. Sizes range from as small as a size 3 up to a size 12 (women) or 16 (men).
Some styles have a wider midfoot section, straight lasted soles or extend heel counters to provide increased support for the pronated or “flat” foot.
All shoes have a removable innersole to provide extra room for your own orthoses’.
Other features in some of the shoes includes:
- Heat moldable leathers to accommodate for painful and prominent bones or joints
- Flexible panels in the top of the forefoot for clawing toes or in the side for bunions

Veteran Affairs
Veterans who have shoes supplied by DVA require a footwear prescription to be filled in by approved footwear prescribers. Prescribers include

Health insurance companies
Some health insurance companies will give a rebate for medical grade footwear. You need to check your relevant fund to see if you qualify for a rebate and if a medical referral is required

Our clinic is managed by professionally trained staff with experience in fitting problematic feet with the correct shoe. Staff are members of the Australian Medical Grade Footwear Association and participate in the continual education programme of that Association. http://www.amgfa.org.au
