Ben McMurtrie – Orthotist - Director
With a love for working and helping people and manufacturing, the orthotic profession was an ideal career. Ben graduated in 1989 and began working at the Geelong Hospital in 1992. Ben started his own orthotic practice in 1997 and has been contracting orthotic services to Barwon Health since then. Ben has a particular interest in sports and paediatric orthotic management. He was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2002 which took him to the USA, England and Europe to investigate current orthotic techniques for managing Paediatric Cerebral Palsy. Ben finds a growing and dynamic profession with new innovations and options for managing conditions rewarding. Ben loves living with his family on the surf coast, surfing, mountain bike riding, music and trying to learn the guitar with any spare time left.

Melinda Solly

 

Melinda Solly – Orthotist
Melinda graduated in 1993, and has worked in the field of Orthotics for 17 years and at Geelong Orthotics for the last 10 years. A particular interest in the Health Sciences and a love of creating with her hands has steered Melinda into the Orthotic and Prosthetic profession. Melinda embraces new challenges which keep her interest levels high and she finds helping people very rewarding. Melinda has specialised in the management of Compression Therapy. Other interests are based around a growing family, keeping fit, printmaking and making porcelain ware.

 

Christopher Doak – Chief Orthotist

Chris graduated as an Orthotist from Latrobe University in 2006 after completing an Honours Degree. Chris has an interest in managing spinal injuries and deformities after completing his Honours project on HALO cervical orthoses and their complications. Chris has become trained in the assessment and prescription of the Spinecor spinal system for the treatment of scoliosis. Other areas of interest include the management of the complex Diabetic Foot and Upper Limb Orthoses. Chris keeps busy renovating his house, surfing, bike riding and learning Spanish.

 

 

Kate Sneyd - Orthotist
Kate graduated from Latrobe University in 2009 and is a great addition to the team. She has had the opportunity to study in Sweden expanding her biomechanical knowledge and skill base. She is currently managing our public patient case load at Barwon Health and has a keen interest in paediatrics, fracture management and spinal bracing. Kate continues to expand her knowledge, attending lectures in patient care and compression therapy. She enjoys living in the Geelong area, surfing and the natural beauty it offers.

 

Ruth Miles – Office Manager
Ruth has been with Geelong Orthotics for more than 10 years as our Office manager and is the longest serving staff member. Always ready to help Ruth enjoys the busy days, particularly the diverse range of patients we assist. Ruth has a genuine interest in assisting with our patient's needs and has an amazing memory for names. Her organisational skill keeps Geelong Orthotics running efficiently. Ruth is a die hard Geelong Cats supporter who enjoys family life and rural living.

 

Lynette Matulich - Reception
Lynette began working at Geelong Orthotics in 2003 before returning to study. After completing a Certificate IV in Management and a Diploma in Beauty Therapy Lynette returned to Geelong Orthotics in 2006. Lynette keeps fit and active by running and going to the gym and has as a love for fine food/wine, travel, socialising and arthouse movies.

 

Terry Towers – Footwear Manager
Terry is our Footwear Manager and has been working in the Footwear industry for over 30 years. He has managed footwear stores around Geelong and has an amazing ability to know which shoes are best suited to the individual. Terry has a quick and sharp wit and is without a doubt our most dedicated Geelong Cats supporter.

 

Heidemarie Tyley – Footwear
Our newest member, Heide assists Terry in the Extra Footwear clinic. Hiede began working as a cook and has worked with the disabled and in retail Footwear, all giving her excellent grounding for a position in our footwear division. She enjoys crafts, reading and gardening in her spare time.

 

Robert - Technician
Robert is our Master technician who has the ability to solve the most challenging tasks. After completing year 12 he began his profession in plumbing, which he spent 7 years in. A solid knowledge and variety of technical and mechanical amplitudes has placed him perfectly in the role of orthotic technician. Robert provides a high quality technical service for our patients. Australian Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA)All orthotists are members of our professional administration body the Australian Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA).
We participate in AOPA’s professional development program. Our orthotists are annually awarded the title of CO (Certified Orthotist).
