Geelong Orthotics is pleased to open expressions of interest for our upcoming seven‑week Orthotics Short Course, designed specifically for medical practitioners seeking deeper clinical understanding of orthotic interventions and improved confidence in selecting orthotic options for their patients.
This program blends theory, hands‑on practice, and case‑based learning to support clinicians in delivering effective, evidence‑based orthotic care.
What the Course Will Cover
Across seven structured weeks, participants will explore:
Theoretical Sessions
Core orthotic principles and biomechanical concepts
Clinical reasoning pathways for choosing orthotic interventions
Orthotic options for common orthopaedic, vascular and musculoskeletal conditions
Practical Sessions
Hands‑on demonstrations of common orthotic devices
Opportunities to handle materials, assess device function, and trial fitting techniques
Guided discussion of real‑world case studies drawn from clinical practice
These interactive sessions ensure participants leave with both conceptual clarity and practical confidence.
Supporting Patient Outcomes
Strategies to enhance mobility, reduce pain, and improve function
When and how to involve orthotists for collaborative patient management
Meet the Presenters
The course is delivered by two experienced certified Orthotist/Prosthetists from Geelong Orthotics.
Chris Doak – Director/Senior Orthotist
Chris holds a Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics (Honours) and has worked across Australia and the UK. Since joining Geelong Orthotics in 2007, he has developed deep expertise in paediatric and neuromuscular orthotic management, as well as the use of advanced manufacturing and modern materials in clinical practice.
His diverse career across both public and private sectors ensures participants receive insights grounded in real-world clinical challenges and emerging best practice.
Kate Patton – Orthotist
Kate completed a Bachelor of Applied Science/Master of Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics and joined Geelong Orthotics in 2020. She brings a strong interest in paediatric orthotic management, spinal care, and acute injury management, and is known for her collaborative, patient‑centred approach to helping individuals achieve their orthotic goals.
Her practical experience across both clinical orthotic work and prior technical fabrication gives participants a clear understanding of how orthotic decisions translate into functional outcomes.
